What Is Dysport?
Dysport is a brand of neuromodulator, an injectable medication that temporarily relaxes the small muscles responsible for certain facial lines. Like other neuromodulators, it treats dynamic wrinkles: the creases that form when you frown, squint, or raise your brows. By easing that muscle movement, the skin above has a chance to smooth and soften in the days after treatment.
Dysport is one of several neuromodulators we offer, alongside Botox and Xeomin. What patients tend to notice about Dysport is a quick onset and a tendency to diffuse a little more evenly, which can make it a nice fit for broader areas like the forehead. If you’d like to see how the three compare side by side, our wrinkle relaxer overview walks through it.
What Dysport Can Treat
Common treatment areas
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (the “11s” between the brows)
- Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
Dysport is often chosen when there’s a broader area to treat, since it tends to spread smoothly. For very precise, targeted work, Botox is sometimes preferred. Both are excellent, and which one suits you is part of what your consultation decides; we offer both so the choice is about fit, not availability.
Beyond the classic areas
In experienced hands, neuromodulators like Dysport can also soften a dimpled chin, ease vertical neck bands, or help relax an overactive jaw muscle. Whether any of these is right for you depends on your anatomy and is decided together at your consultation. For lower-face shaping, see jawline contouring.
Your Dysport Visit
1
Consultation
We look at how your face moves, talk through what you’d like to soften, and recommend whether Dysport and which areas make sense for you, often starting conservatively.
2
Treatment
The injections take only a few minutes with a very fine needle. Most patients describe brief, minor pinches and return to their day right away.
3
Results
Dysport often starts to take effect quickly, within a couple of days, with the full result developing over about two weeks. Results are temporary and typically last a few months, depending on the individual.
Results You Can Expect
Most patients see their treated lines soften noticeably, with a rested look that still moves naturally. Dysport’s quicker onset means some people notice a change within a few days. How much a line improves depends on its depth and the strength of the muscle underneath, and some areas respond more fully than others. Because results are temporary, maintenance treatments keep the effect going, and a conservative approach preserves natural expression.
Results vary.A consultation is required to determine whether Dysport is appropriate for you, and treatment plans are individualized. Dysport temporarily softens the appearance of dynamic wrinkles; it does not stop or reverse aging, and outcomes differ from person to person.
Dysport or Botox?
Both are excellent FDA-approved neuromodulators, and neither is better across the board. Dysport tends to take effect a little faster and to diffuse more smoothly, which can suit larger areas like the forehead. Botox is often chosen for precise, targeted treatment. We also offer Xeomin, a purified option, so the choice is based on what fits you, not on what’s in stock. Our wrinkle relaxer overview compares all three side by side.
Dysport also pairs well with dermal fillers, which restore volume and soften the static lines and hollows present even at rest, a different job than relaxing muscles. Many patients combine the two.

Common questions
Dysport FAQs.
How is Dysport different from Botox?
Both are FDA-approved neuromodulators that relax the muscles behind dynamic wrinkles, and neither is better overall. Dysport tends to take effect a little faster and to spread more smoothly, which can suit broader areas, while Botox is often chosen for precise, targeted work. The units are measured differently between the two, so they aren’t a one-to-one swap, but your provider accounts for that.
How long does Dysport last?
Results are temporary and commonly last a few months, depending on the individual, the area treated, and the dose. Many people notice softening within a couple of days, with the full effect developing over about two weeks. Maintenance treatments keep the effect going.
Does Dysport hurt, and is there downtime?
The injections use a very fine needle and take only a few minutes; most people describe brief, minor pinches. There’s typically little to no downtime. Minor redness or small bumps at the injection sites usually settle quickly, and you can generally return to your day.
Will I still look like myself?
That’s the goal. A frozen or overdone look usually comes from treating too aggressively. Dysport can be planned conservatively to soften lines while preserving natural movement and expression, so you look refreshed rather than “done.”
Is Dysport safe?
Dysport is a widely used, FDA-approved treatment, and serious complications are uncommon when treatment is provided by qualified, exceptional professionals. The most common side effects are temporary and minor, such as bruising at an injection site, headache, or, rarely, a temporary eyelid droop. Your provider will review what to expect beforehand.
Refreshed, and still you.
