What Is Non-Surgical Jawline Contouring?
Jawline contouring is a way of improving the definition, balance, and shape of the lower face. A strong jawline can soften with age as we lose bone and soft-tissue support, or it can be obscured by a heavy chewing muscle or by fullness under the chin. Rather than one procedure, contouring is usually a thoughtful combination of injectable treatments, each addressing a different part of the picture.
The right mix depends entirely on what’s affecting your jawline, which is what your consultation is for. Below are the main non-surgical tools we use.
The Non-Surgical Tools We Use
Dermal filler, to add structure
Placed along the jaw and chin, dermal filler adds definition and projection where bone support has been lost or was never strong. It can sharpen the jawline, strengthen a weak chin, and restore a cleaner angle between the jaw and neck. Results are immediate and, with hyaluronic acid fillers, adjustable.
Masseter treatment, to slim a wide jaw
For a jaw that looks square or heavy because of an enlarged chewing (masseter) muscle, a neuromodulator such as Botox can relax that muscle so it gradually slims over a few weeks. This also tends to help people who clench or grind. The effect is softening and tapering of the lower face, and it’s temporary, so it’s maintained over time.
Kybella, to reduce a double chin
When fullness beneath the chin blunts the jawline, Kybella can dissolve that fat over a series of injections, with no surgery. As the submental fullness reduces, the jawline and neck look sharper and more defined. Once cleared, those fat cells don’t return.
Most contouring plans use more than one of these together, because a jawline is rarely about just one thing. Your provider will recommend the combination that fits your anatomy and goals.
Who Is Non-Surgical Contouring For?
Non-surgical contouring tends to suit people who want a more defined lower face without the downtime or commitment of surgery. It can be a good fit if you have:
- A soft or undefined jawline you’d like to sharpen
- A square or heavy-looking jaw from an enlarged muscle
- Fullness under the chin that blurs the jaw and neck
- Early volume loss along the jaw with age
- A preference for gradual, adjustable change over an operation
If significant loose skin or a deeper structural change is the main concern, injectables may not be the best answer, and we’ll tell you so honestly. In those cases, a surgical option such as a neck lift or fat grafting may be more appropriate, and Dr. Beal can discuss those during your consultation.
What to Expect
1
Consultation
We assess what’s affecting your jawline, bone support, muscle, fat, or skin, and build a combination plan around your goals, often staged over a few visits.
2
Treatment
Each injectable is quick and done in the office. Filler gives an immediate change; muscle slimming and Kybella develop gradually over the following weeks.
3
Results
The lower face looks more defined as each treatment takes effect. Results are temporary in nature and maintained with periodic touch-ups, depending on the treatments used.
Results You Can Expect
Because contouring combines treatments, your timeline depends on the mix. Filler sharpens the jaw right away; masseter slimming and Kybella build over several weeks to a few months. How long results last varies by treatment and by individual, and a plan is usually maintained with periodic touch-ups. The aim throughout is a natural, balanced improvement, not an overdone look.
Results vary.A consultation is required to determine which treatments, if any, are appropriate for you, and every plan is individualized. Non-surgical contouring uses injectable treatments that temporarily reshape the lower face; it does not replace surgery where surgery is indicated, and outcomes differ from person to person.

Common questions
Jawline contouring FAQs.
Can I really define my jawline without surgery?
For many people, yes, to a meaningful degree. Filler adds structure, muscle slimming narrows a heavy jaw, and Kybella reduces fat under the chin. Together these can noticeably sharpen the lower face. There are limits: significant loose skin or major structural change is better addressed surgically, and we’ll be honest with you about what injectables can and can’t do for your jawline.
How many treatments will I need?
It depends on your starting point and which tools your plan uses. Filler can be a single visit with immediate results; masseter slimming and Kybella are usually built up over a few sessions. Your provider maps out a realistic plan at your consultation.
Is there downtime?
Generally little. Injectable treatments may cause temporary swelling, bruising, or tenderness, and Kybella in particular causes expected swelling under the chin for a few days. Most people return to normal activities quickly and plan sessions around any social events.
How long do results last?
It varies by treatment. Filler along the jaw commonly lasts many months to over a year; masseter slimming is maintained with periodic treatment; and Kybella’s fat reduction tends to last, since the cleared fat cells don’t return. Your provider will explain the expected longevity of your specific plan.
Will it look natural?
That’s the goal. Contouring is planned conservatively and often staged, so the change builds gradually and in balance with the rest of your face. The aim is a more defined, refreshed lower face that still looks like you.
