Medical Dermatology Services
Every service below is provided in our office by our board-certified dermatology team, and if a screening ever finds something, treatment through Mohs surgery and reconstruction happens here too, without a referral elsewhere.
Acne Treatment
Personalized plans for teen and adult acne, topicals, oral medications, and in-office care that target breakouts now and help prevent scarring later.
Mole & Skin Lesion Evaluation
Careful evaluation of new, changing, or concerning moles, with biopsy when warranted. Medical evaluation of suspicious lesions is typically covered by insurance.
Cyst & Lipoma Removal
In-office removal of cysts and lipomas under local anesthesia, with the entire cyst sac removed to minimize the chance it comes back.
Skin Cancer Screenings
Quick, thorough head-to-toe skin exams that may catch skin cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage, or simply give you peace of mind.
Mohs Surgery
Precise skin cancer surgery with 100% margin examination, an on-site CLIA-certified lab, and same-day reconstruction by a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon.
Eczema, Psoriasis & Rashes
Diagnosis-first care for rashes of every kind, eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, hives, and skin infections, with patch testing when the trigger isn’t obvious.
Rosacea & Rhinophyma
Medical therapy plus M22 IPL to calm persistent redness, flushing, and visible vessels, and treatment for thickened skin when rosacea has progressed.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Describe your concern and we’ll guide you to the right appointment. Most new patients are seen within the same week, call (314) 834-1400 or request an appointment online.
Physician-Led Care, Close to Home
Medical dermatology at St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery is led by Dr. Brandon T. Beal, a double board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon, fellowship-trained at the Cleveland Clinic and Zitelli & Brodland. That depth matters even for routine care: the same practice that checks your moles can biopsy, diagnose, and surgically treat what it finds, including same-day Mohs surgery and reconstruction.
As a locally owned, physician-led practice, we take the time corporate chains often don’t, unhurried exams, clear explanations, and a treatment plan built around you.
Conditions We Treat
Beyond the services above, we diagnose and manage the full range of skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. If your concern isn’t listed, call us, chances are we treat it.

Common questions
Medical dermatology FAQs.
Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?
Most insurance plans don’t require a referral for dermatology, though some HMO plans do. If you’re unsure, check with your plan or call our Troy office at (314) 834-1400, we’re happy to help you sort it out before your visit.
How soon can I be seen?
Most new patients are seen within the same week. If you’ve noticed a new or rapidly changing spot, mention it when you call, concerns like that are prioritized.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept Medicare and most major private insurance plans, and medical dermatology visits are typically covered. Your exact cost depends on your plan and deductible, call with your insurance information and we’ll verify before your appointment.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Your insurance card, a list of current medications, and any notes about when your concern started or how it has changed. If you’re coming for a skin exam, arriving without makeup or nail polish helps your provider see your skin and nails clearly.
