What Is Botox?
Botox is a brand of neuromodulator, an injectable medication that temporarily relaxes the small muscles responsible for certain facial lines. It treats dynamic wrinkles: the creases that form when you frown, squint, or raise your brows. By gently easing that muscle movement, the skin above has a chance to smooth and soften over the days after treatment.
Botox has the longest track record of the neuromodulators and is the name most people know. It’s one of several we offer, alongside Dysport and Xeomin; if you’d like the bigger picture of how they compare, our wrinkle relaxer overview walks through it. The goal with any of them is the same: a refreshed, natural look that still moves and expresses like you.
What Botox Can Treat
Common treatment areas
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (the “11s” between the brows)
- Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
Beyond the classic areas
In experienced hands, Botox can also do more advanced work. Whether any of these suits you depends on your anatomy and is decided together at your consultation.
- Jawline slimming: relaxing an enlarged masseter (chewing) muscle can soften a square lower face over time. See jawline contouring.
- Jaw tension and grinding: some patients who clench notice relief when the masseter is treated.
- Gummy smile: easing the muscles that lift the upper lip can reduce how much gum shows.
- Chin smoothing and neck bands: softening a dimpled chin or vertical neck bands without surgery.
Your Botox Visit
1
Consultation
We look at how your face moves, talk through what you’d like to soften, and recommend which areas to treat and how much, often starting conservatively.
2
Treatment
The injections take only a few minutes with a very fine needle. Most patients describe brief, minor pinches and head straight back to their day.
3
Results
Softening usually begins within a few days and continues to develop over about two weeks. Results are temporary and typically last a few months, depending on the individual.
Results You Can Expect
Most patients see their treated lines soften noticeably, with a rested look that still moves naturally. How much a line improves depends on its depth and the strength of the muscle underneath, and some areas respond more fully than others. Because results are temporary, maintenance treatments keep the effect going over time, and a conservative approach preserves natural expression.
Results vary.A consultation is required to determine whether Botox is appropriate for you, and treatment plans are individualized. Botox temporarily softens the appearance of dynamic wrinkles; it does not stop or reverse aging, and outcomes differ from person to person.

Botox or Dysport?
Both are excellent FDA-approved neuromodulators, and neither is better across the board. Dysport sometimes spreads a little more, which can suit larger areas like the forehead, while Botox is often chosen for precise, targeted treatment. We offer both, plus Xeomin, a purified option, so the choice is based on what fits you, not on what’s in stock. Our wrinkle relaxer overview compares all three side by side.
Botox also pairs well with dermal fillers, which restore volume and soften the static lines and hollows that are present even at rest, a different job than relaxing muscles. Many patients combine the two.

Common questions
Botox FAQs.
How long does Botox last?
Results are temporary and commonly last a few months, depending on the individual, the area treated, and the dose. Softening begins within a few days and develops over about two weeks. Maintenance treatments keep the effect going over time.
Does Botox hurt, and is there downtime?
The injections use a very fine needle and take only a few minutes; most people describe brief, minor pinches. There’s typically little to no downtime. Minor redness or small bumps at the injection sites usually settle quickly, and you can generally return to your day.
Will I still look like myself?
That’s the goal. A frozen or overdone look usually comes from treating too aggressively. Botox can be planned conservatively to soften lines while preserving natural movement and expression, so you look refreshed rather than “done.”
Is Botox safe?
Botox is among the most studied and most common aesthetic treatments performed, and serious complications are uncommon when treatment is provided by qualified, exceptional professionals. The most common side effects are temporary and minor, such as bruising at an injection site, headache, or, rarely, a temporary eyelid droop. Your provider will review what to expect beforehand.
How is Botox different from filler?
They do different jobs. Botox relaxes the muscles that create dynamic lines, the creases that appear when you move. Dermal fillers restore lost volume and soften static lines that are present at rest. Many patients use both together for a balanced result.
Refreshed, and still you.
