ResurFx Laser St. Louis
ResurFx is a non-ablative fractional laser that improves skin texture, tone, and firmness by stimulating the body’s own collagen, without removing the surface of the skin. It’s a popular choice for softening scars and fine lines with less downtime than aggressive resurfacing. At St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Troy, MO, ResurFx is performed under the direction of Dr. Brandon T. Beal, a double board-certified dermatologist.

What Is ResurFx?
ResurFx is a fractional laser resurfacing treatment that delivers controlled energy into the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis) without removing the outer layer (the epidermis). Because it’s non-ablative, the surface stays intact, healing time is shorter, downtime is reduced, and results develop gradually and naturally, which makes it a popular option for patients who want noticeable improvement without aggressive resurfacing.
It’s one of several options we offer. For deeper correction, a fuller laser resurfacing treatment may be more appropriate, and for brown spots or redness rather than texture, M22 IPL is often the better tool. We’ll match the right approach to your skin at your consultation.
How ResurFx Works
ResurFx uses a fractional laser pattern to create many microscopic thermal zones beneath the skin’s surface. These tiny, controlled points of treatment trigger the body’s natural healing response, which over time can stimulate new collagen and elastin, improve texture and firmness, soften scars and fine lines, and enhance overall skin quality.
What ResurFx Can Treat
ResurFx may help improve the appearance of a range of texture-related concerns, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Surgical or traumatic scars
- Stretch marks
- Uneven skin texture and enlarged-looking pores
- Mild skin laxity and crepey or thinning skin
It’s commonly used on the face, neck, chest, hands, abdomen, and other areas with scars or stretch marks. Whether it’s right for your concern is decided together at your consultation.
Your ResurFx Visit
1
Before

Laser energy is delivered in a controlled pattern. The sensation may feel warm or mildly uncomfortable, and treatment time varies based on the area treated.
3
After
Mild redness and swelling are common, and skin may feel tight, dry, or rough with light flaking for several days. Most patients resume normal activities quickly.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for ResurFx if you want to improve skin texture rather than pigmentation alone, have acne scars or textural irregularities, are noticing early signs of aging, prefer a non-surgical option, want gradual and natural-looking improvement, and can commit to a treatment series if one is recommended. A consultation confirms whether it’s the right fit for your skin and goals.
When Will I See Results?
ResurFx results develop gradually as collagen production increases. Early improvement may be noticed within a few weeks, with continued change over several months, and results may keep evolving with good skincare and sun protection. Because it builds over time, a series of treatments is often recommended.
Results vary. A consultation is required to determine whether ResurFx is appropriate for you, and treatment plans are individualized. ResurFx can improve the appearance of texture and scarring; results develop gradually and differ from person to person.

Common questions
ResurFx FAQs.
How is ResurFx different from ablative resurfacing?
ResurFx is non-ablative, meaning it heats the deeper skin to build collagen without removing the surface. That generally means less downtime and more gradual results than ablative resurfacing, which removes the outer layer for deeper correction. If you’d like to compare, our laser resurfacing page covers the ablative end in more detail.
How many treatments will I need?
Because results build gradually, ResurFx is often done as a series. The number depends on your skin and the concern being treated, and is set together at your consultation.
How much downtime is there?
Downtime is modest. Mild redness and swelling are common, and skin may feel tight, dry, or rough with light flaking for several days. Most patients resume normal activities quickly, and your provider will give you aftercare guidance.
Does ResurFx hurt?
A topical numbing cream is usually applied beforehand. During treatment the sensation may feel warm or mildly uncomfortable, and any tightness or redness afterward is generally short-lived.
Can ResurFx treat areas besides the face?
Yes. ResurFx is commonly used on the neck, chest, hands, and abdomen, as well as areas with scars or stretch marks, in addition to the face. Your provider will discuss which areas are appropriate at your consultation.
