What Is CoolPeel?
CoolPeel is a brand of fractional CO2 laser treatment. Traditional CO2 resurfacing is highly effective but can involve significant heat and a longer recovery; CoolPeel delivers its energy in very short, controlled pulses that treat the surface while limiting heat to the surrounding skin. The result is a treatment that can refresh tone and texture with much less downtime.
Because it works at the lighter end of CO2 resurfacing, CoolPeel is often chosen for a refresh rather than deep correction, and it can be repeated as a series for cumulative benefit. It’s one of several options we offer; if you’d like to compare gentler and deeper approaches, our laser resurfacing overview walks through them, and you can see the full menu on our laser treatments page.
What CoolPeel Can Treat
CoolPeel may help with everyday signs of sun exposure and aging where a lighter, lower-downtime approach is a good fit. Whether it’s right for you is decided together at your consultation.
- Fine lines and early wrinkles
- Sun damage and dullness
- Uneven tone and texture
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Overall radiance and smoothness
For deeper wrinkles, more pronounced scarring, or significant sun damage, a fuller CO2 resurfacing treatment may be the better tool. For redness and broken capillaries, we may suggest M22 IPL instead, and for gradual collagen-building with no surface treatment, ResurFx is another option.
Your CoolPeel Visit
1
Consultation
We look at your skin and the concerns you’d like to address, confirm whether CoolPeel is a good match, and explain what to expect from the treatment and recovery.
2
Treatment
After numbing for your comfort, the laser is passed over the treatment area. The treatment itself is brief, and many patients describe a warm sensation as it works.
3
Recovery & results
Downtime is typically short, often a few days of redness and light flaking as the skin renews. Tone and texture continue to refine over the following weeks, depending on the individual.
Results You Can Expect
Most patients notice fresher, smoother-looking skin with more even tone as it heals over the days and weeks after treatment. CoolPeel is designed for lighter, lower-downtime refreshing, so results are typically gradual and build with a series; how much any concern improves depends on its depth and on your individual skin.
Results vary. A consultation is required to determine whether CoolPeel is appropriate for you, and treatment plans are individualized. CoolPeel can improve the appearance of the skin; it does not stop or reverse aging, and outcomes differ from person to person.
CO2 Laser Before and After Photos
Every photo is from one of Dr. Beal’s patients treated with CO2 laser resurfacing. CoolPeel is the lighter end of this family, so results are typically more gradual; individual results depend on treatment depth and skin, and vary.
CoolPeel or Traditional CO2 Resurfacing?
Both use the same family of CO2 laser energy; the difference is how deep the treatment goes and how much recovery it involves. CoolPeel is the lighter option, a refresh for tone, texture, and fine lines with only a few days of downtime, often repeated as a series. Traditional, fuller CO2 resurfacing treats deeper wrinkles, more pronounced scarring, and significant sun damage in a single, more intensive session, with about one to two weeks of visible healing.
Neither is better across the board; the right choice depends on your skin, your concerns, and how much downtime fits your life. Our laser resurfacing page covers the deeper end in more detail, and we’ll help you decide at your consultation.

Common questions
CoolPeel FAQs.
How is CoolPeel different from traditional CO2 resurfacing?
Both use CO2 laser energy. CoolPeel delivers it in very short pulses to treat the surface while limiting heat to the surrounding skin, so it’s a lighter treatment with less downtime, well suited to refreshing tone, texture, and fine lines. Fuller CO2 resurfacing goes deeper to address more pronounced wrinkles, scarring, and sun damage, with more recovery. Which fits you is decided together at your consultation.
How much downtime is there?
CoolPeel is designed for minimal downtime. Many patients have a few days of redness and light flaking as the skin renews, similar to a mild sunburn, and most return to their usual routine quickly. Your provider will explain what to expect for your skin and give you aftercare guidance.
How many treatments will I need?
Because CoolPeel is a lighter treatment, it’s often done as a series to build and maintain results, though some patients choose a single session for a refresh before an event. The right plan depends on your skin and goals and is set together at your consultation.
Does CoolPeel hurt?
Numbing is applied beforehand for your comfort. Most patients describe a warm sensation during the brief treatment, and any tightness or redness afterward is usually mild and short-lived.
When will I see results?
Skin often looks fresher within a week or so as the surface renews, and tone and texture continue to refine over the following weeks. Results build with a series and vary from person to person.
