Kybella® Treatment St. Louis
Our Board-Certified experts in Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery are experts in the treatment of submental fullness (double chin), helping dissolve away this unwanted fat.
What is Kybella®?
Deoxycholic acid, also known as Kybella®, is an FDA-approved treatment for excess fat in the chin region (also know as a “double chin”).
Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring acid, made by your liver, that helps breakdown fats. When injected into fat cells beneath the chin, Kybella® dissolves the fat cells, permanently reducing the appearance of a double chin.
What is the best treatment for double chin?
Double chin, or submental fullness, is a common problem encountered by both men and women. There are a variety of factors that contribute to this problem including genetics, aging, and weight gain. However, many people with fullness in this area are not overweight and are unable to get rid of this stubborn fat despite weight loss.
In the past, the only options for treating a double chin were liposuction and surgery. However, we now have a non-invasive and non-surgical option that provides amazing results. Kybella® is a unique FDA approved treatment for double chin.
Kybella® Before and after:

Why choose St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery for Kybella?
At St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, we are innovators and leaders in our field. We utilize treatments to address your concerns, and when others are unable to find a solution we will work with you to help you find a solution to improve your life.
For example, Dr. Beal uses Kybella® as an innovative, non-surgical treatment for lipomas. While at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Brandon Beal led the treatment of a patient with a rare genetic disorder using Kybella® . Dr. Beal treated the patient with Kybella® with significant improvement of the patient’s painful lipomas. The patient improved so much that he did not require surgery. The patient noted this was the longest time period over the last decade he was able to go without surgery!
What can you expect?
Before any procedure, you will have a consultation with our expert cosmetic dermatologists. The physician will listen to you, perform a thorough evaluation, and provide you an individualized treatment plan to address your specific needs and concerns.
First, our cosmetic dermatologists will examine your chin/submental area. Next you will ice the chin for 5-10 minutes to minimize any discomfort. We then will mark and clean the treatment area. Injections are individualized to sculpt your jawline. Significant improvement usually occurs after the second treatment. Typically, excellent results can be achieved with 3-4 treatments.
In the hands of our skilled expert cosmetic dermatologists, Kybella® is a minimally invasive treatment for double chin. Once your submental fullness is treated, your jawline will be sharper, rejuvenated and refreshed.
How long do results from Kybella® last?
Kybella® permanently destroys the fat cells, leading to long lasting effects. Studies with Kybella® began in 2007, and we continue to see long lasting results with persistent improvement in the chin profile with less fat, tighter skin, and a sculpted jawline.
What are the side effects of Kybella®?
The most common side effects are temporary swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and redness in the treatment area. Injection site side effects such as hair loss and open sores have occurred. Rare reported side effects include temporary trouble swallowing, uneven smile, facial muscle weakness and nerve injury – these are uncommon side effects when the treatment is performed by board-certified dermatologists.
