CO2 Laser Blepharoplasty St. Louis
CO2 laser blepharoplasty is a non-surgical way to refresh the eyes, using a fractional carbon dioxide laser to tighten loose, crepey eyelid skin and soften fine lines without incisions or stitches. For patients who want noticeable rejuvenation with less downtime than surgery, it can be an appealing middle ground. At St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in Troy, MO, treatment is performed under the direction of Dr. Brandon T. Beal, a double board-certified dermatologist.

What Is CO2 Laser Blepharoplasty?
CO2 laser blepharoplasty is a non-invasive treatment that uses a fractional carbon dioxide laser to resurface the skin around the eyes. The laser stimulates collagen production and tightens loose or crepey skin, which can create a lifting effect, without a scalpel. Rather than cutting or removing skin, it delivers controlled micro-injuries that prompt the body’s natural healing, for firmer, smoother eyelids over time.
It’s a different option from surgical eyelid surgery. If you’re weighing the two, our eyelid surgery page covers the surgical approach, and we’ll help you understand which is the better fit at your consultation.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
CO2 laser blepharoplasty may be a good fit for patients who:
- Have mild to moderate eyelid drooping or under-eye sagging
- Notice fine lines or crepey texture around the eyes
- Want a non-surgical approach with minimal downtime
- Are not yet ready for, or interested in, surgery
- Have realistic expectations for gradual, natural-looking change
It’s a popular choice for patients in their 30s to 60s who want to refresh the eye area without anesthesia or a surgical procedure. Whether it’s appropriate for you is decided together at your consultation.
Concerns It Can Address
- Loose or wrinkled upper eyelid skin
- Crepey texture under the eyes
- Fine lines and crow’s feet
- Loss of firmness in the lower eyelid
- A generally tired or aged appearance
In some cases, CO2 laser resurfacing can be combined with wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers for fuller facial rejuvenation, depending on the individual.
Your Visit
1
Consultation
We assess the skin around your eyes, discuss your goals, and determine whether laser blepharoplasty is the right fit or whether another option suits you better.
2
Treatment
Numbing cream is applied for comfort, and a local anesthetic may be used. The fractional CO2 laser is then applied to the upper and/or lower eyelids, typically over about 20 to 30 minutes.
3
Recovery & results
Expect redness, mild swelling, and light crusting for about five to seven days as the skin renews. Results develop gradually over roughly four to eight weeks as new collagen forms.
Recovery and Downtime
Compared with traditional eyelid surgery, which can involve a longer stretch of swelling and sutures, CO2 laser blepharoplasty generally offers a quicker, more comfortable recovery. Here’s the typical course:
- Redness and mild swelling for three to seven days
- Gentle skin peeling as new skin forms
- Results that improve gradually over four to eight weeks
- Makeup and skincare usually resumed after about a week
You’ll receive detailed post-care instructions to support healing. Recovery times vary from person to person.
What You Can Expect
CO2 laser blepharoplasty can provide a natural-looking lift by tightening the skin and softening fine lines. Many patients notice brighter, more youthful-looking eyes, smoother eyelid contours, improved tone and texture, and a more refreshed, alert appearance. Results continue to improve as collagen builds over the following weeks. For many patients one treatment is enough, though a second session is sometimes recommended for deeper rejuvenation.
Results vary. A consultation is required to determine whether CO2 laser blepharoplasty is appropriate for you, and treatment plans are individualized. This treatment can improve the appearance of the eye area; it does not stop or reverse aging, and outcomes differ from person to person.

Common questions
CO2 Laser Blepharoplasty FAQs.
How is this different from eyelid surgery?
Surgical blepharoplasty removes or repositions skin and tissue through incisions. CO2 laser blepharoplasty is non-surgical: it resurfaces and tightens the eyelid skin with a fractional laser, without cutting. The laser approach generally means less downtime, while surgery may be the better option for more significant excess skin. Which fits you is decided at your consultation, and you can read about the surgical route on our eyelid surgery page.
How much downtime should I expect?
Most patients have redness, mild swelling, and light crusting for about five to seven days, with gentle peeling as the skin renews. Many return to normal activities within a week, and makeup and skincare can usually be resumed around that time. Healing varies from person to person.
How many treatments will I need?
For many patients, one treatment is enough. A second session is sometimes recommended for deeper rejuvenation, depending on your skin and your goals. We’ll discuss what to expect at your consultation.
When will I see results?
Skin often looks fresher once the initial healing settles, and results continue to improve over roughly four to eight weeks as collagen builds. Results develop gradually and vary by individual.
Is it safe for the skin around the eyes?
The eye area is delicate, which is why treatment is performed under the direction of a double board-certified dermatologist after assessing your skin. Your provider will review what to expect, how to prepare, and the aftercare that supports safe healing.
