My first visit, I went in to have a few different spots looked at their removed them to test while I was the office. Made it very convenient, not to have to schedule another appointment for the biopsy. I received multiple phone calls to schedule my six week follow up, which was today. Everything was handled during biopsy. I would recommend this place to anyone.

As a farmer, I'm outside exposed to the sun. My family has a history of skin cancer. I have been seeing Jennifer for many years and extremely pleased with her knowledge and honesty.
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for leaving us a stellar review!
AMAZING! The staff was welcoming and pleasant. Since 2019, numerous doctors prescribed various treatments that never worked. Dr. Swofford not only listened, she made me feel that I was in the right place. In one day, she resolved an ailment that has plagued me since 2019. Great music selection as well (80s)!!!! 😊

At St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, we understand that stretch marksโ€”also known as striaeโ€”are a common concern for men and women of all ages. While theyโ€™re harmless from a medical standpoint, they can affect confidence and make patients feel self-conscious about wearing specific clothing or showing their skin. Whether caused by pregnancy, weight changes, growth spurts, muscle building, or hormonal changes, our expert team offers cutting-edge stretch mark removal and reduction treatments to help restore a smoother, more even skin appearance.

What Are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks form when the skin stretches or shrinks rapidly, causing the collagen and elastin fibers beneath the surface to tear. Over time, these marks can appear:

  • Red or purple when new (striae rubrae)
  • White or silver when older and more mature (striae albae)

They can occur anywhere but are most common on the abdomen, thighs, hips, breasts, buttocks, and upper arms.

Who Gets Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks can affect anyone, but they are most commonly seen in:

  • Pregnant women (often called pregnancy stretch marks or striae gravidarum)
  • Adolescents during growth spurts
  • Athletes or bodybuilders with rapid muscle growth
  • Individuals with significant weight changes
  • People with certain hormonal or genetic predispositions

Stretch Mark Treatment Options at SLD

While over-the-counter creams and oils may help with hydration, professional treatments are far more effective at stimulating collagen and improving skin texture. At St. Louis Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, we tailor treatments to your unique skin type, the severity of your stretch marks, and your desired results.

1. Laser Therapy

  • Fractional COโ‚‚ stimulates collagen remodeling, reduces discoloration, and smooths skin texture.
  • Particularly effective for both newer red marks and older white marks.

2. Microneedling & Radiofrequency Microneedling

  • Creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger the skinโ€™s natural healing response.
  • Improves skin texture and color blending while promoting collagen growth.

3. Chemical Peels

  • Uses targeted acids to exfoliate and encourage cell turnover.
  • Works best for early-stage stretch marks or in combination with other treatments.

4. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

  • Uses your bodyโ€™s growth factors to speed healing and regenerate healthy tissue.
  • Can be combined with microneedling for enhanced results.

5. Topical Prescription Treatments

  • Retinoid creams (e.g., tretinoin) to boost collagen production and fade early-stage marks.
  • Medical-grade skincare products to maintain and enhance treatment results.

Benefits of Professional Stretch Mark Treatments

  • Smoother skin texture
  • Reduced visibility of stretch marks
  • More even skin tone
  • Boosted collagen and elastin production
  • Increased skin firmness and elasticity
